Lugarde is a family business and has been manufacturing summerhouses and log cabins, among other things, for more than 38 years. They have their own factory and their own design and drawing department, allowing them to guarantee quality.
Lugarde wanted to increase the number of orders with the desire to not scale up the drawing department for this purpose. Together with Recognize, they took on the challenge of developing a customized configurator.
This resulted in a configurator that automatically creates drawings for both the internal organization with its supplying dealers and customers, as well as for the municipality for a building permit.
Lugarde had been looking for some time for a party that could develop a complex configurator. Together with the engineers at Recognize, they took up the challenge.
How can we increase the number of orders without scaling up our drawing department? This question became the starting point of the design phase.
In designing this digital solution, ease of use was important. The configurator should allow customers to see their own designs; their own construction drawing in 3D.
Recognize was introduced to Lugarde’s process. We worked out the order and process flow and which systems needed to be linked to the configurator. Together with customers, we look at their internal and external processes and connect their needs and competencies to create the best digital solutions.
All findings were collected and Recognize presented the digital solution: the configurator that allows end customers to design a garden house according to their wishes in 3D and view it in 360 degrees.
Time to start developing the configurator. Every other week, the scrum team delivered part of the solution. This was thoroughly reviewed with the customer and tested on-site. The complexity is mainly in the business rules.
Also, the configurator was linked to the dealer, pricing, and CMS system so that all information is correct. The output of the configurator was also taken into account. The end customer’s design is directly suitable for applying to the municipality for a building permit, for example.
The configurator allows end customers to design a garden house according to their wishes in 3D and view it in 360 degrees. To do this, Recognize used webGL. This was a new technique and the only way to render in 3D real life.
Also, the configurator can be white-labeled by Lugarde dealers. Recognize learned a lot from the complexity and logic of the first custom configurator. It was a great digital challenge for both Lugarde and Recognize and a great success with over 10,000 orders already placed.
After the development phase, the moment arrives; the configurator is delivered! In the run phase, we proactively maintain the developed solution. We are also further developing the configurator and looking at how we can further optimize the Lugarde process after the order is placed.
